Where Inspiration And Insight Come Together
Two things about gardening that I treasure in my life; inspiration and insight. I was drawn to take a shot of the base of the little tree that stands at one edge of our garden. The little vignette captured my imagination and much of that came from the way the light of early morning played on the different textures and colours.
Always watching for evidence of the magic of nature; I got the silly notion this little spot signifies a doorway between the unseen ones and the garden. The faeries, the dragons, the elementals as some would call them. The early morning light gave indication of where they'd gone to rest after an evening of dancing and playing in the garden. Nearby I usually place a toad house and now I get the impression that too was a divinely inspired act! Toads of course get on very well with our unseen garden companions, even allowing the little ones to ride on his back! How convenient that his home is parked right nearby their den.
Where Faeries and Dragons Hide, was the title I wrote for this picture. The caption says; "Finding the spots where they like to hide away is often easier using the magic of early morning light!"
I even used a part of the above shot for the new header I put up at my personal blog; imcheryl then I used another image taken of just the Forget-Me-Nots as a header for this blog. I'm quite happy with the results!
Early morning, it is a special time of day. The birds know how special - that's why they sing so sweetly in the morning. Same can be said for sunsets and again our evidence is the way the birds behave. They seem to have a certain reverence for these times of day. The insight I receive from such observations is something I am truly grateful for and I often talk to the birds and let them know just how much I appreciate their gifts. It seems our relationship is developing quite nicely as they are becoming less frightened when I work in the garden and are beginning to allow me to get closer for some perfect photographs!
Here a morning dove hunts for a buggy breakfast
And below; a male sparrow is already busy feeding his brood of hatchlings! These birds aren't just friends and inspirations for me - there are a few practical reasons for attracting them to our garden; they will help keep the mosquitoes in check, they will also help keep garden bugs down to a manageable level. The sights and sounds they add to the garden are an added bonus that gives in return! As they often leave seeds behind in their droppings that provide "surprise plants" (volunteer plants is the "proper" term!) around the yard!
One garden companion that gives me mixed feelings is the common ant. One is shown here climbing down the left side of the flower. While ants help the peonies out of their buds they often carry fungus spores that can contribute to damp off. (last year I lost several tomato plants to damp off - frustrating!)
This peony will likely open this weekend - and is one of my prized perennials! It's deep red and is usually the first one to open before the pinks and one other dark one near the rear of the garden!
And a final entry for today - a pretty blue pansy is shown below, with such a cheery face! When I work in the garden I often smile and sometimes it's almost as if the flowers smile right back at me! Once in a while I even get the impression one or two are winking, knowingly!
Hope you've enjoyed the view! Be sure to check back for updates when you can!
